Andre Fenton Phd

Neuroscientist

Show/Hide Bio

André Fenton PhD is working on three related problems: how brains store information in memory; how brains coordinate knowledge to selectively activate relevant information and suppress irrelevant information; and how to record electrical activity from brain cells in freely-moving subjects. He and his colleagues identified PKMzeta as the first memory storage molecule, a discovery identified by Science as one of the ten most important breakthroughs in all the science reported in 2006. Recordings of electrical brain activity in Fenton’s lab are elucidating the physiology of cognitive dysfunction in schizophrenia. Fenton is a professor of neural science at New York University’s Center for Neural Science and founder of Bio-Signal Group Corp.

Kenneth Blum PhD

Researcher & Author on Neuropsychopharmacology and Genetics

Show/Hide Bio

Kenneth Blum PhD completed post-doctorate research in psychopharmacology at the Southwest Foundation for Research and Education where Irving Geller was his mentor. He also completed a fellowship in pharmacogenetics under Gerald McClearn at the University of Colorado College of Pharmacy (Boulder) in 1977. Blum’s most important work was a 1990 study he co-led with Ernest Noble, the former director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, that correlated the dopamine D2 Receptor Taq 1 allele with alcoholism. This study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Blum expanded his research of genes involved in brain reward circuitry. By the early 1980s there were many suggestions that alcoholism had genetic antecedents and a high heritability. This research stimulated further studies of gene associations. Though the press has called his finding the “alcoholic gene,” Blum believed his work to be of broader scope, calling this gene a “reward gene” which covers other addictive behaviors including drug addiction, smoking, overeating, and pathological gambling.[2] Later the concept of Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) coined in 1996 by Blum as a new way to look at all addictive, obsessive and compulsive behaviors including substance and process addictions, personality and spectrum disorders.

PROFESSIONAL HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS

Harry Kerasidis, M.D. Brain Concussion at Pure Recovery CA

Dr. Harry Kerasidis, M.D. Brain Concussion at Pure Recovery CA

Neurologist

Show/Hide Bio

Harry Kerasidis, M.D. is one of few elite neurologists in the world specializing in the impairment of cognitive and emotional performance resulting from concussions. He co-founded XLNTbrain LLC after 25 years of clinically treating mild traumatic brain injury and studying the changes of the electrophysiology of the brain as it relates to behavior, cognitive, and emotional function resulting from various brain trauma, including concussions.

Dr. Kerasidis has treated thousands of concussion injuries throughout his career. His private practice, Chesapeake Neurology Associates, is based in Prince Frederick, Maryland. A highly sought-after cognitive neurologist, he has helped patients with a variety of cognitive and behavioral disorders including cognitive impairment due to stroke, sleep deprivation, attention deficit disorder, dementia, and traumatic brain injury.

Through his experience, Dr. Kerasidis sought to fill the void of a much needed comprehensive sport concussion management program. He found existing concussion baseline testing lacked critical cognitive and emotional measures. He also saw the gross lack of integration of key elements of a comprehensive sport concussion management program. So he created and began using a baseline assessment, acute management and recovery care plan, which has been incorporated into XLNTbrain Sport’s complete concussion management program for all sports and levels.

Dr. Kerasidis has a distinguished career helping the general public, scholars and medical professionals understand the link between the physiology of the brain and behavior. At Calvert Memorial Hospital, he serves as the Medical Director for the Center for Neuroscience, Medical Director for the hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center and Medical Director for the hospital’s Stroke Center.
